It may have taken a little while but in his fourth year on the ballot catcher Mike Piazza was elected to his rightful place in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Arguably the greatest hitting catcher of all-time, Piazza compiled some very impressive numbers in his 16-year career, knocking 427 home runs with 1,335 RBI and a .308 batting average. Drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 62nd round of the 1988 amateur draft as a favor to his father from manager Tommy Lasorda, Piazza was the 1993 NL rookie of the Year and a six-time All Star in Los Angeles but is perhaps best remembered for his eight years as a member of the New York Mets. Piazza was also a six-time All-Star with the Mets and reached the post season twice with the team including the 2000 “Subway Series” vs. the New York Yankees. A New York Mets cap adorns his Hall of Fame plaque in Cooperstown, NY. This size-50 MLB Authentic/Rawlings button down jersey was worn by Piazza during the 2000 “Subway Series” World Series between Piazza’s Mets and the crosstown Yankees. Piazza hit .273 with two home runs, two doubles and four RBI in the Mets four games to one loss to the Yankees and was on the receiving end of Roger Clemens infamous bat-throwing tirade in Game One. Dramatic looking black jersey has “Mets” sand Piazza’s number “31” stitched across the front in three-dimensional blue, orange and white tackle twill with Piazza’s name and number in the same fashion on the back below a blue, orange and white MLB logo. A Mets logo patch depicting the New York City skyline is on the left sleeve with an MLB 2000 World Series logo patch on the right. Dark blue piping runs around the collar, along the button lines and circles the sleeves. An MLB Authentic/Rawlings manufacturer’s label with size “50,” “1 Inch Extra Length & 1 inch Shorter Sleeves & Plus 1 Inch Cric. On Sleeves” and “Set 2 2000” flag tags is on the interior left tail; comes letter of authenticity from game worn jersey expert Dave Miedema. Comes with Letter of Authenticity from Mead Chasky of MC Sports who received the jersey thru his contacts with the NY Mets.
