Baseball’s future home run king was well on his way to setting both the single season and career record when he used this bat in 2001. Going into that season, Bonds had so far accumulated 494 lifetime homers and had hit 49 the previous summer, yet no one had any premonition of how historic the summer of 2001 would be. In the opening weeks, Bonds became a member of the 500 Home Run Club, and then commenced hitting the long ball at an unbelievable pace. When it was over, Barry Bonds was the new single season home run champ with 72 along with a .863 slugging percentage, had hit .328 with 137 RBI and reached base in more than half of his at-bats, recording a .515 on-base percentage. With his career home run total now at 567, Bonds was also significantly closer to his eventual goal of breaking Hank Aaron’s hallowed record.

This outstanding SAM bat was used by Barry Bonds during that magical season when sacred records were rewritten. Bonds’ SAM 2K1 model bat is un-cracked and shows excellent game use. The left and back barrel exhibit many ball marks with stitch impressions and blue ink transfers. Bat rack paint streaks can be seen as are cleat imprints. The handle has been taped in a crisscross pattern to enhance the grip and the bat’s length “34,” weight “31.4,” manufacture date “13 06 01,” model “Y2k1” and Bonds’ initials “B.B” are all handwritten on the barrel in black marker.  Topping off this record-breaking season gamer is a Barry Bonds signature on the barrel in contrasting silver marker. Beneath the silver signature “8-4-01 #541” has been handwritten in gold marker in an unknown hand. This is a Barry Bonds gamer used during his historic 2001 season. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (E36016) for the game use and has been given the highest possible grade of GU 10. Please note that this bat has been attributed to the August 4, 2001 game by the writing of the unknown hand inscription. On that date, Bonds hit his 541st career home run. There is also a LOA from Beckett Authentication services and a hologram from Barry Bonds for the signature only.
