As the 2001 season was coming to a close, so was the Hall of Fame career of baseball’s Iron Man Cal Ripken, Jr. One of those final stops came during a three-game weekday series with the Oakland Athletics in early September. Playing in his final game in Oakland of his storied career, Ripken wore these offered items presented here in this lot – which includes his road Orioles uniform (jersey and pants), game socks, cleats, a wristband, underwear and game tape.

Ripken’s gray Majestic button-down jersey is a size 50 and features “Orioles” and a paraph sewn on across the chest in orange and black tackle twill, along with his number “8” that is sewn on in the same orange and black tackle twill. The Majestic tag and size 50 flag are sewn on the front left tail. The sleeves have black piping on the ends with the right sleeve having the “100 SEASONS AMERICAN LEAGUE 1901 2001” patch, while the left sleeve has the Orioles’ bird patch. The back has “RIPKEN” and “8” sewn on in orange and black tackle twill. The jersey displays moderate use with some light dirt stains in a couple of areas. The next item is a match set of gray game pants, also made by Majestic. The sides have a single black piping stripe and two back pockets. The Majestic logo patch is on the left back pocket. The inner waist lining has the Majestic Authentic tag, along with a white team tag that reads “8 Ripken 38-40 31 -1”. These pants display moderate use with some old and wash dirt stains on the knees.

The next items in this lot are a pair of black game socks. These socks are approximately 20 inches long from the heel to the top and are white on top with Ripken’s number “8” handwritten in now faded black marker on the white areas. These socks display excellent use. Next is a pair of Nike compression boxer shorts. These shorts are a size XL and have Ripken’s number “8” handwritten on the wash tag. The next item is a black wristband with the Nike swoosh and Ripken’s number “8” embroidered in orange in two spots. This wristband displays excellent use. Also included are two remnants of tape. There is black residue and the shape indicates they were taped around his feet and ankles. Each set of tape were cut to be removed.

The final item in this lot are a pair of Nike cleats. These all-black cleats are made of black synthetic leather with the Nike swoosh and heels make of orange synthetic leather. The cleats are a size 11 ½ and have “C.R.” and small Nike Swooshes embroidered on each side in orange and on the heels. The soles are made of hard rubber and each have six metal spikes. There is also a Velcro-fastened lace guard. These displays excellent game use with dirt and abrasion marks. These cleats come with a LOA from J.T. Sports. This entire lot comes from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. and a signed LOA from Cal will accompany this lot.
