Cal Ripken, Jr. donned this uniform set for the August 23rd, 2001 game at Tropicana Field in Tampa. The Iron Man got a hit and RBI during the 7-4 Oriole win, as he singled to center field off Devil Rays pitcher Nick Bierbrodt in the top of the fifth inning that drove in Jerry Hairston from third base. The gray road jersey features “Orioles” across the chest and Ripken’s number “8” below in orange and black tackle twill. Both sleeve ends have black piping while the left has the oriole bird patch and the right has the special American League 100th Anniversary patch. The left front tail has the Majestic label with size “50” flag below. The back has the MLB logo patch and “RIPKEN” across the shoulders above his number “8” in orange and black tackle twill. The jersey shows moderate to heavy game use with staining and soiling on the front. This final season gamer has been signed on the front in black marker.

The matching gray road pants have black piping down each leg. The Majestic label is sewn in the waistband with an “8 RIPKEN 38-40 37 01” strip tag. The pants show heavy game use with numerous dirt and soil stains on the front, along with a hole in the left knee and a large dirt spot on the left rear. A Ripken signature is on the left thigh in black marker. The black cleats feature orange Nike logos on both sides and the back of each has “NIKE” and Cal’s initials, “C.R.” Both fold over tongues have Cal’s number “8” in orange and The Iron Man has signed the heal of the right cleat in silver marker. The pair of black and white stockings each has Cal’s number “8” handwritten in black marker on the tops. A pair of athletic tape wrappings worn by Cal during the game, two black Nike wristbands with the Nike swoosh and “8” embroidered in black and an Official Major League Allan H. Selig baseball from the August 23rd, 2001 game completes this extraordinary game worn collection. The ball has been signed by Ripken on the sweet spot and he inscribed on the north panel “Last Game in Tampa 8-23-01”. This lot comes with a LOA from Cal Ripken, Jr. for the game use and signature and a LOA from Resolution Photomatching, who have photo matched the jersey and pants to the August 23rd, 2001 game.
