The nations of South Korea and Japan hosted the 2002 FIFA World Cup, with the tournament final between Germany and Brazil occurring at International Stadium in Yokohama, Japan. This was the third World Cup Final in a row for Brazil’s right back and captain Cafu, setting a new record yet to be equaled. Germany dispatched Paraguay, the United States, and a surprising South Korea team to reach the Final, while Brazil made short work of UEFA opponents Belgium, England, and Turkey. Brazilian icon Ronaldo scored both goals in the Final, beating Germany’s goalkeeper Oliver Kahn as Brazil won their record fifth World Cup title.
Offered in this lot is a winners’ medal from the 2002 FIFA World Cup. This medal is gold in color, with the World Cup logo and “2002 FIFA World Cup Korea Japan” etched in high relief on the front of the medal. Etched in high relief on the opposite side of the medal is an image of the FIFA World Cup Trophy. This medal comes in the original Bertoni presentation box and is accompanied by a LOA from Alexandre Silva Da Silveira, a member of the Brazilian Football Confederation.
