No Japanese player got off to such a great MLB start as Ichiro Suzuki. Already a three-time league MVP in his native Japan, Ichiro really came into his own when he debuted with the Mariners in 2001. In his monster rookie season he was named both the AL’s Rookie of the Year AND the league MVP – only the second player in history to accomplish that feat (Fred Lynn in 1975).
2002 was almost a duplicate of his rookie year and he became only the 6th man in MLB history to record 200 or more hits in his first two seasons. This Mizuno 51A model bat is un-cracked and shows excellent use. Several ball marks are visible on the barrel along with cleat imprints. A moderate coat of pine tar is on the handle and the model number “51A” is stamped into the knob. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B01556) for the game use and has been graded a GU 8.5.
