Penn State has had the ability to bring in star running backs. From Hall of Famer Franco Harris to modern day star Saquon Barkley, the Nittany Lions have produced some of the best backs in football history. Included in the best running backs category is Larry Johnson, whose 2002 season was one of the best in the storied history of Penn State football. Johnson rushed for 2,087 yards on 271 carries, a whopping 7.7 yard per carry and scored 23 total touchdowns – 20 of them via the ground. Johnson’s monster season earned him a slew of national awards in 2002, including the Walter Camp Award, Maxwell Award and the Doak Walker Award and he finished second for the Heisman Trophy and was a unanimous selection for the All-American Team.
Offered here is the very Walter Camp Award that was presented to Larry Johnson of Penn State for his tremendous senior season in 2002. The Walter Camp Award is given annually to the collegiate football player of the year as voted on by a group of NCAA Division I coaches. This impressive award is approximately 17 ½ inches tall and features three football players, one holding a football with his hand extended and two other players attempting to tackle him. The players’ scene is resting on a 7 ¼ x 10-inch wood base with a gold plate attached that reads “LARRY JOHNSON PENN STATE UNIVERSITY 2002 WALTER CAMP PLAYER OF THE YEAR”. This trophy is in excellent condition, only having some edge wear on the wood base. A wonderful opportunity to possess a prestigious award given to a player that had one of the great seasons in Penn State history. This comes with a signed LOA from Larry Johnson.
