The final event of every World Series victory has always been the presentation of the World Series trophy. These golden flag-studded awards have become synonymous with victory and have become as iconic as the Stanley Cup and Heisman Trophy. This massive trophy was designed specifically for the 2004 Boston Red Sox. 2004 was, of course, the season the club broke “The Curse”.

The Curse was a mythical spell that hung over the Red Sox ever since they dealt Babe Ruth to the Yankees in 1920. The Curse was supposed to have prevented the Sox from ever tasting World Series glory again - and by 2000 it began to appear that there was something to this curse after all. Boston had appeared in the 1946, 1967, 1975 and 1986 World Series, each time suffering devastating seven-game losses. However, 2004 was the season that ended the “Curse”. After looking like 2004 would end with yet another defeat by the Yankees in the playoffs, the Sox magically came back to beat the Yanks and win the American League pennant after trailing 3-0 in the series.

While that in and of itself was a great accomplishment, there was still the St. Louis Cardinals to contend with. The Cards were considered a stronger club, winners of 104 regular season games, but the Red Sox barreled into the Series on a roll, and swept St. Louis in four games. This glorious trophy design is the end result of the season that broke Boston’s dreaded Curse. While several smaller trophies are produced for the players and executives, this massive piece of marble and metal is the salesman's sample that was used to create the owner's trophy. 25 inches tall, 13 inches in diameter and weighing more than 30 pounds, less than a handful of these impressive trophies were created for the Red Sox’ ownership to display. 30 gold plated flags representing all the teams in each league surround a silver baseball with 24-karat stitching and etched with longitude and latitude lines that symbolize the “world” in “World Series”. The base is completed with a facsimile of the commissioner’s signature and “Presented by the Commissioner of Baseball".
