To kick off the 2004 MLB season, the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Devil Rays played a two-game series at the Tokyo Dome in Japan. The Yankees, who boasted sophomore Japanese sensation Hideki Matsui in the starting line-up, were defeated by a score of 8-3 in the first game. Starter Mike Mussina was chased after five innings as the Rays scored early and often. The second game was a reversal of fortunes, as the Yankees bombarded their way to a 12-1 victory the following night. Jorge Posada stole the show, crushing two three-run home runs and driving in half of the Yankees runs. Matsui got in on the action as well, clobbering a two-run home run and driving in another with a third inning single. Kevin Brown pitched seven innings of one run ball, and each team was able to leave Japan with one victory.

This silver stainless steel watch has the Rays and Yankees logos in the watch face, as well as “’04 RICOH MLB Opening Series” and a MLB logo. On the reverse side of the face is a 2004 Opening Series logo etched into the watch. The wristband is stainless steel. This watch comes in a brown box with the RICOH Opening Series logo embossed in gold on the top. It was presented by The Yomiuri Shimbun, a major newspaper in Tokyo. Please note that the watch is not currently running.
