Willie Randolph was a standout player for the New York Yankees. A member of the 1977 and 1978 World Series-winning teams, Randolph was a steady presence at second base and at the plate. Randolph finished his career with 2,210 hits. Following his playing career that ended following the 1992 season, Randolph joined the coaching ranks and re-joined the Yankees in 1994. Randolph got his first managerial job with the New York Mets in 2005.

As manager of the New York Mets, Randolph was presented with this ceremonial shovel during the groundbreaking ceremony of Citi Field on November 13, 2006.This wood shovel with a metal base is 54 inches long and has engraved in black “CEREMONIAL GROUNDBREAKING NOVEMBER 13, 2006”, “Mets” and “CITI FIELD” along with the Citi logo on the Louisville Slugger bat wood shaft. The metal spade has the “Citi” logo and the “Mets” logo engraved. There are dirt marks for when Randolph and the other guests of honor stuck the shovels into the dirt. A tremendous artifact from what is considered one of the nicest ballparks in the country. This item derives from the collection of Willie Randolph and a signed LOA from Willie Randolph will accompany this item.
