This painted Wilson “The Duke” game used football was presented to New York Giants defensive lineman Osi Umenyiora for setting the Giants record of sacks in a game during the Giants 16-3 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on September 30th, 2007. Umenyiora got to Eagles QB Donovan McNabb six times, with the Giants collecting 12 sacks as a team, tying the NFL record. Umenyiora and his defensive teammates Michael Strahan and Justin Tuck were a crucial piece of New York’s Super Bowl-winning 2007 squad.
This football, used in the Giants 16-3 victory over the Eagles, is stamped with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s facsimile signature. The panel to the south of Goodell’s stamped signature is painted white, with the text “Defensive Game Ball Presented To Osi Umenyiora” and “Giants Record For Sacks In One Game / New York Giants 16 / Philadelphia Eagles 3 / Sunday, September 30, 2007 / Giants Stadium”. This ball is a tremendous relic from one of the NFL’s fiercest rivalries.
