Coming into Super Bowl XLII, the heavily favored New England Patriots were on the verge of making history, trying to become the first team go undefeated since the 1972 Miami Dolphins and surpassing the fish by winning 19 games without a loss. The only thing standing in the way of the 12-point favorites going 19-0 were the NFC Champion New York Giants. Led by Eli Manning and Plaxico Burress, the Giants overcame a late 14-10 deficit to defeat the Patriots 17-14 on February 3, 2008 in Glendale, Arizona and earning the third Super Bowl victory in franchise history. The game had many memorable moments, including David Tyree’s catch pinned to his helmet, a play that was started by Manning avoiding a sure sack by escaping the clutches of Patriots’ defenders Richard Seymour and Jarvis Green. That play kept the winning drive alive late in the fourth quarter as later on in that drive, Manning found a wide open Burress for a 13-yard touchdown reception with 35 seconds remaining that capped the fourth quarter comeback. Offered is the helmet worn by Plaxico Burress during Super Bowl XLII. This blue Riddell VSR-4 helmet features the Giants “NY” in white on both sides and a solid red stripe down the middle. Burress’ “17” is on the front center above the “Riddell” and at the base of the helmet in the rear, with the “1” and “7” separated by the raised red stripe. Also at the base of the helmet in the back are the NFL logo sticker and the Super Bowl XLII logo sticker. Above those stickers are a “21” Sean Taylor memorial decal in in memory of Washington Redskins safety, who was killed that previous November and worn by all NFL teams and an American Flag sticker, both of which are separated by the red stripe. The helmet has a gray Schutt facemask, and the 4-point chinstrap and mouth guard are still intact. The helmet shows excellent game use and has been photo matched to Super Bowl XLII.
