The 2009 Fourth of July/Independence Day holiday weekend was the second time that Major League Baseball encouraged all 30 teams to wear commemorative caps celebrating the Fourth of July holiday weekend. That year, the New York Yankees took the unusual (for them) step of wearing a red baseball cap instead of their traditional navy cap. This offered red cap was worn by Alex Rodriguez and features the iconic Yankees interlocking “NY” logo embroidered on the front, but with white stars on a blue field in the left half, and white stripes on a red field in the right half. The back of the cap featured the MLB logo embroidered in red, white and blue with white stars in the blue background (left) and white strips in the red background (right).

That weekend, the Yankees hosted the Toronto Blue Jays at new Yankee Stadium.  Friday night, July 3, the Yankees beat the Blue Jays, 4-2, and Rodriguez hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning off pitcher Jeremy Accardo.  On Saturday, July 4th, the Yankees won 6-5, and A-Rod was 2-for-3 in that game with three walks and one RBI. Rodriguez has signed and inscribed this game-used Independence Day Weekend cap with black marker on the bill of the cap.  He has signed his name and inscribed “Game Used 4th July Weekend 2009” beneath his signature. This cap comes with an MLB Authenticated hologram (LH529214) which dates this cap to the July 5th game. This item also comes with a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication for the signature.
