Big Papi started off 2009 slow, not connecting for his first home run until the last week of May. However, once started, Ortiz never looked back. On July 9th, he slammed the 300th round tripper of his career and in September he hit the 270th home run as a DH, breaking the all-time record held by Frank Thomas. This Rawlings 456Bmodel bat dates to Ortiz’s record breaking 2009 season. The Rawlings 456B model bat shows outstanding use and is un-cracked. There is checking or grain swelling from repeated ball contact and there are several ball marks with white leather scuffs on the barrel. Ortiz’s number “34” sticker is affixed to the knob and a light coat of pine tar is on the handle. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B13744) and has been graded a near-perfect GU 9 for the game use.
