New York Mets third baseman David Wright wore this USA baseball jersey during the first game of the 2009 World Baseball Classic, an international tournament featuring 16 teams of Major League and international stars vying for the title of best baseball nation in the world. The USA’s first game, against the Canadian squad, was a 6-5 victory at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada. The USA prevailed despite Wright’s slow start to the tournament, as he finished the game 0-4. The United States finished the World Baseball Classic in fourth place, behind Venezuela, South Korea, and the champions from Japan.

This white jersey features “USA” sewn across the front in red, white, and blue tackle twill. Wright’s number “4” is sewn on the front and back in red-on-blue tackle twill. “WRIGHT” is sewn across the back shoulders in blue tackle twill over a white nameplate below a WBC logo. A large “’09 World Baseball Classic” logo patch is sewn on the left sleeve. A United States flag with a gold border is sewn on the right sleeve. The under-arm area is made of red mesh fabric. A WBC/Majestic tag is sewn on the front left tail. A Majestic “COOL BASE” and size “48” tag are sewn onto the side of the jersey. This jersey shows light to moderate signs of game use, with dirt stains present on the jersey.

Wright signed the “4” on the back in black Sharpie, adding the inscription “Game Used WBC 2009.” This jersey comes with a MLB Authenticated hologram (BC 019045).
