Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was presented with this Rosa Parks Award for Social Justice by the Association of Teachers of Social Studies United Federation of Teachers. Abdul-Jabbar, a history major at UCLA, is a noted author and educator and one of the NBA’s great intellectual presences. This plaque measures 9 x 12 inches. It states that Abdul-Jabbar was presented with this award “for his lifetime commitment to social justice and equity through his historical writings, his ability to balance an outstanding professional basketball career with a depth of understanding of the roots of the movement which made that career possible, and for providing his own shoulders on which succeeding generations of youth will be able to stand and reach for their own personal greatness”. This award is accompanied by a LOA signed by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
