This gray, button-down 2011 Detroit Tigers game used Victor Martinez road jersey is a nice blast from the past for baseball historians. The jersey was part of a MLB “Turn Back the Clock” promotion that saw teams wear an old edition of the franchise’s uniform. In this instance, the Tigers wore the 1944 jersey that features “Detroit” scripted across the chest in navy blue tackle twill with Martinez’s number “41” on the back also in navy blue tackle twill. The left sleeve of the jersey features a stars and stripes shield patch while the right sleeve has a black patch shaped like home plate that reads “SPARKY 11,” honoring longtime Tigers manager Sparky Anderson. The front tail of the jersey features a “Majestic Authentic Collection” patch with a white strip tag below that reads “41 48 1944 18,” indicating Martinez’s number, jersey size, commemoration year and inventory number. The jersey exhibits evidence of very nice game use, including a large dirt stain on the back left side of the jersey, and appears to be all original. The jersey comes with an LOA from Dave Miedema, noted sports jersey expert.
