Offered in this lot is a match ball from the 2012 London Summer Olympics soccer competition. This was the only competition at the 2012 Olympics held outside of London, with matches contested at Old Trafford in Manchester, Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Hampden Park in Glasgow, St. James’ Park in Newcastle, and Coventry’s Ricoh Arena. In the end, it was Mexico who won the gold medal, defeating Brazil 2-1 in the gold medal game. The unified Great Britain team was eliminated in penalties by South Korea in the first knockout game. In the women’s bracket, it was the United States who took the plaudits, defeating a fearsome Japan team 2-1 in the gold medal game. The ball used in the Olympic tournament was an Adidas sphere nicknamed “The Albert”. It is white, with pink accents and blue London Olympic logos. This historic soccer ball comes with a LOA from an official from the Brazilian Football Confederation.
