When selecting worthy candidates to receive a Major League Baseball Lifetime Achievement Award, Daniel Joseph “Rusty” Staub would certainly be near the top of the list. Sure enough, he would be honored with the award by the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) in 2012. Staub appeared in a remarkable 2,951 games over his 23-year career, finishing with 292 home runs, 2,716 hits, 1,466 RBI and a fantastic 1,255-888 walk-to-strikeout ratio. He made six All-Star appearances and finished in the top 20 in MVP voting four times. Staub became the only player in MLB history to have 500 hits with four different teams (New York Mets, Houston Colt .45’s/Astros, Montreal Expos, Detroit Tigers). For good measure, he also had 102 hits with the Texas Rangers, batting .300 in 1980.

Offered here is the 2012 MLBPAA Lifetime Achievement Award ring presented to Staub. The face depicts the MLBPAA logo, which features three images of a baseball player during the stages of swinging a bat. “LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD” is displayed around the perimeter, surrounding the center images. The left shank of the ring offers an image of a baseball in relief work, as well as “MLBPAA” and the year 2012. Staub’s name and number 10 appear on the band’s other side, which is centered by another image of a baseball. This ring bears the STERLING mark inside the band and is approximately a size 10 ½ while weighing approximately 25.3 grams. This item comes with a LOA from Rusty Staub.
