Just how special was Miguel Cabrera’s 2012 season? The Detroit Tigers third baseman became the first player since Boston Carl Yastrzemski in 1967 to achieve Major League Baseball’s elusive Triple Crown award. Cabrera posted a .330 batting average with 44 home runs and 139 RBI that season to earn the feat. This Cabrera game-used grey button-down Tigers road jersey was tagged by MLB after the team’s 3-1 win over Kansas City on April 17. Cabrera went 2-for-4 in the contest with an RBI. The jersey features “Detroit” scripted across the chest with “CABRERA” across the top back and his number “24” on both sides in navy blue on orange and white tackle twill. The front left tail of the jersey features a “Majestic Authentic Collection” manufacturer’s label with a white strip tag below that reads “24 52 ’12 ST 171.” Tigers clubhouse manager Jim Schmakel marked the manufacturer’s label “JSG” in black sharpie to verify the jersey was worn by Cabrera. The jersey shows evidence of game use including stains on the shoulder and normal wear, and is verified under the MLB Authentication program, number “EK056671." The Jersey actually was used three days earlier than when MLB collected it. It was used April 14th 2012 and photo from game is posted online.
