Texas Rangers designated hitter Nelson Cruz wore this 1972 throwback uniform (jersey and pants) on May 12th, 2012, during the Rangers 4-2 loss to the Los Angeles Angels at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Cruz went 0-2 with a walk and a hit-by-pitch as the Rangers fell to their division rivals. Cruz finished the 2012 season with 24 home runs, 90 RBI, and a .260 batting average for the 93-69 Rangers.
This white button-down jersey has “Rangers” sewn across the chest in red and blue tackle twill. A white star in a circle is embroidered on the first letter in “Rangers”. “CRUZ” is sewn across the back shoulders in red tackle twill above his number “17”, sewn on the jersey in red and blue tackle twill. A red, white, and blue pattern accents the sleeve and collar openings. A Majestic tag with a size “54” flag is sewn on the front left tail above a “TBTC 1972” swatch. Dirt stains are present on the chest and back left shoulder of this jersey. This jersey comes with a MLB Authenticated hologram (EK 035558).
Also included in this lot are Cruz’s throwback home pants. These white pants have a red, white, and blue band running down each leg. The waistband is red, white, and blue, with two buttons and drawstrings on the front. A “17 Cruz 37-46 37 OB C 1972” swatch is sewn on the inside waistband. These pants come with a MLB Authenticated hologram (EK 035625).
