On August 11, 2013 the Yankees were cruising to what looked to be an easy victory over Detroit. With the score 4-2 in the top of the 9th, The Sandman entered the game to close it out – then the roof caved in. Cabrera hit a solo shot followed one out later by a second home run by Victor Martinez that tied the game. Rivera buckled down and got the last two outs to end the rally. After Jose Vargas got the first two Yanks out in the bottom of the 9th, Rivera readied himself for the 10th inning. Fortunately, Brett Gardner came through with a walk-off solo shot, giving the Yankees and Rivera the win.

This is the home jersey Rivera won during that exciting Yankees walk-off win. The white pinstripe jersey has the famed “NY” on the left chest in navy, below which the relief specialist has signed his name in blue marker adding “Game Used career Win 79  8-11-13.” The Majestic label and size “46” and “2013” hangtags are sewn in the lower left tail. A team barcode sticker is affixed below along with MLB and Steiner holograms. The back has The Sandman’s number “46” in navy letters. The jersey shows light game use with some staining found on the lower right back where the waistband would have been. An outstanding gamer worn by the game’s best reliever during an appearance that started as a save gone wrong, yet ended in a Yankees win.
