Despite the legendary heroics that made Derek Jeter a household name, by his final season of 2014, his bag of tricks seemed to be empty. His marginal power had all but abandoned him and his BA hovered around .265 for most of the campaign, well below his .310 lifetime average. So it was on September 18, 2014 that Derek Jeter took the field at Yankee Stadium to open a 4-game set with the Toronto Blue Jays, the 1st game of an 8-game home stand, the final home stand of Jeter’s storied career. When Jeter approached the plate in the bottom of the 6th inning, Yankees leading 1-0, he was already 1 for 2 with an infield single. But this being Derek Jeter, he must have something up his sleeve, right? Indeed he did, as he took an R.A. Dickey pitch over the left field wall for his 4th home run of the season, and incredibly, his 1st (and only) bomb at Yankee Stadium in 2014.
It would prove to be his final round tripper at the stadium, helping the Yanks to a 3-2 win, a fitting victory in light of Jeter’s heroic at bat. This official Selig Major League Baseball, complete with Derek Jeter’s final season logo, was used in the game that night. As an added bonus, Jeter has signed the ball in blue ballpoint just below the Jeter 2 logo on the side panel of the ball. The ball shows heavy game use, and comes with an LOA from Steiner and an MLB Authentication tag with regard to game use, and a COA from Steiner regarding signature. A superb memento from The Captain’s final season.
