The 2014 WBC Convention, held in Las Vegas, Nevada between December 14-19 at the Mirage Hotel and Casino, was an opportunity for the organization to unveil its new designs for their championship belts. Various awards and the newly designed championship belts were presented to past champions that included the likes of Sugar Ray Leonard and Mike Tyson. Chief among the guest of honor’s, was “The Greatest” Muhammad Ali, who was presented a special award to commemorate his lifetime boxing achievements. This award was created exclusively for him with the only other award of this type being made for the Joe Frazier Family.
Made of onyx and colored black, this heavy trophy measures 4 x 4 x 4 inches at the base and has a five-inch high boxing glove mounted on top of that. Two of the four sides have either been engraved or have a plate. The 2 x 3 ¼ inch plate reads: “KING OF BOXING Muhammad Ali 3 TIME WORLD CHAMPION 56-5-37 KO’s”. While the opposite side has engraving that reads: “WBC CONVENTION Las Vegas 2014”. This trophy has a WBC hologram that is numbered 105881.
