On September 25th, 2016, David Ortiz played in his 2,402nd career game, a 3-2 ten inning game against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field. Ortiz collected the game winning hit, a double in the tenth inning that scored Dustin Pedroia, although he was not credited with the RBI. In the fifth inning, Ortiz hit this ball to left field for the 2,466th hit of his Major League career. In all, Ortiz went 3-5 in this game, with a single in the top of the first accounting for his first hit of the night.
This ball shows excellent signs of game use. Ortiz signed the sweet spot of this Robert D. Manfred Jr. baseball in blue pen, adding “34” to his signature. He inscribed, on the panel to the north of the sweet spot, “9/25/16 Hit 2468”. This item comes with a MLB Authenticated hologram (JB 358448).
