David Ortiz finished his final Major League season with 38 home runs, proving the big slugger still had plenty left in the tank should he decide to play in 2017. However, “Big Papi” called it quits after 2016, finishing his career with 541 home runs, good for 17th all-time. Ortiz sent this ball into orbit on September 23rd, 2016, for the 540th home run of his 20-season career.
Ortiz sent a first inning offering from Chris Archer into the right field seats, scoring Xander Bogaerts. These would be the only two runs the Red Sox needed to win the game, as they prevailed 2-1. Ortiz signed the sweet spot of this Robert D. Manfred Jr. Official Major League baseball in blue pen. He inscribed “9/23/16 HR 540”on the panel to the north of the sweet spot. This ball shows excellent signs of game use. This baseball comes with a MLB Authenticated hologram (JB 794516).
