New York Yankees ace Masahiro Tanaka wore this white Yankees home jersey on Opening Day 2016. The Yankees faced off against the Houston Astros on April 5th, 2016, with Tanaka getting the start in the Yankees first game of the year. The Japanese star pitched 5.2 innings, allowing two runs and striking out four in this eventual 5-3 Houston victory. Dellin Betances ate the loss after surrendering three runs in 0.2 innings. Tanaka finished the 2016 season with a 14-4 record and a 3.07 ERA, his best year since going 24-0 with a 1.27 ERA for the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles in 2013.
This button-down, pinstriped jersey has the Yankees interlocking “NY” logo sewn on the chest in navy tackle twill. Tanaka’s number “19” is sewn on the back of the jersey in navy tackle twill. A black tackle twill “8”, in remembrance of Yogi Berra, is sewn on the left sleeve. A Majestic size “52” tag is applied to the front left tail of this FlexBase jersey. Tanaka has signed the “9” digit on the back of this jersey in silver marker, inscribing a “19” after his signature. This jersey comes with a MLB authenticated hologram (JB 804050), a Yankees-Steiner LOA (235669), and a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A12422).
