This lot is part of the Jackie Robinson 71st Anniversary Auction to benefit the Jackie Robinson Foundation

Perennial slugger Matt Holliday joined the New York Yankees for the 2017 season, his 14th in the Majors. Holliday entered the 2017 season with a career .303 batting average and 295 home runs. Holliday made his debut for the Yankees on April 2nd against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field and used this Old Hickory MH 5 model bat. This bat displays heavy game use and has a large crack on the handle. There are numerous ball marks, stitch impressions, blue ink transfers and cleat imprints present on the barrel. There is a coating of pine tar on the lower barrel/upper handle and a coating of Mota Stick on the lower handle. Holliday broke this bat facing Rays’ ace Chris Archer during the sixth inning when he grounded out to shortstop during the Rays 7-3 Opening Day victory. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B14837) and a MLB Authenticated (JC195645) hologram for the game use. The MLB hologram specifically dates this bat to the April 2nd game and Holliday grounding out to shortstop and classifying this bat as “Broke”. There is also a hologram from Steiner Sports (250259) for the game use. Please note that this lot has a 25% Buyer’s Premium. Goldin Auctions will be donating 10% of the winning bid price to The Jackie Robinson Foundation.
