Teams have become hesitant in signing pitchers to big contracts, but the one Max Scherzer signed with the Washington Nationals prior to the start of the 2015 season is looking like a bargain. Following the 2018 season, Scherzer has combined for a 68-32 record with Washington pitching to a 2.71 ERA, winning the National League Cy Young Award for the 2016 and 2017 seasons and finishing second in the Cy Young voting for 2018.
Offered here is a multi-game Washington Nationals home white alternate Majestic Flex Base size 48 button-down jersey worn by Scherzer during the 2018 regular season. This jersey has been photo matched by the game experts at Sports Investors to have been worn by the 2016 and 2017 Cy Young Award winner for three games in 2018 (April 14, July 22 and September 3). In those three games, Scherzer pitched 20 innings, striking out 29 and won his 13th game of the season. This jersey has the Washington “W” sewn on in red and navy (stars and stripes) tackle twill on the upper left chest. Scherzer’s number “31” is sewn on the center right chest in red and navy tackle twill. Red and navy piping are linked together and run around the collar and down both sides of the buttons and along the sleeve ends. The left sleeve has the Nationals’ logo patch, which is above the Majestic logo that is embroidered in red, while the right sleeve has the “ALL*STAR GAME WASHINGTON, DC 2018” patch.
The back of the jersey has the vinyl MLB logo patch above the piping, with “SCHERZER” and his number “31” sewn on in red and navy tackle twill. The Majestic Flex Base size 48 tag is screen-printed on the bottom front left tail, while an additional Majestic tag is screen printed vertically on the inside right-center front tail and has “#31 2018 48 494” markings. This jersey displays consistent wear from a jersey worn by a pitcher and comes fully authenticated with a LOA from Sports Investors Authentication (181218A1), who have photo matched this jersey to the April 14th, July 22nd and September 3rd games. There is also a MLB Authenticated hologram (JD543584), which listed this jersey as “Team Issued” a common designation for jerseys collected following the season.
