2019 American League Rookie of the Year Yordan Alvarez began his career on a season-long hot streak. The Astros DH crushed 27 homers, with 78 RBI and a .313 batting average, in only 87 games in 2019. Alvarez made his MLB debut on June 9th and remained a fixture in the Astros starting lineup through the playoffs. Offered in this lot is a navy Astros alternate jersey worn by the 6’5” Cuban slugger in four games during the 2019 season.
Alvarez’s first game in this jersey came at home on June 15th against the Blue Jays in Alvarez’s fifth MLB game. Alvarez finished the game 3-4 with a home run, the fourth of his career, in the ‘Stros 7-2 win over Toronto. Alvarez next wore this jersey on July 21st as the Rangers visited Minute Maid Park. Getting the start at DH, Alvarez went 2-4 with an RBI single in the fifth inning. His third game in this jersey came on August 4th at Minute Maid Park against the Seattle Mariners. Alvarez finished this game 1-2 with a double, a walk, and the first sacrifice fly of his career. The outstanding rookie plated Alex Bregman in the sixth inning with his flyout to deep centerfield in Houston’s 3-1 win.
Alvarez’s final game in this jersey came during a 21-1 demolition of the Mariners on September 8th at Minute Maid Park. Alvarez knocked in six runs and set a career-high with three doubles, finishing the lopsided contest 4-6 with seven total bases. Gerrit Cole tossed eight one-run innings, allowing only one hit and striking out 15 Mariners batters. This offered Alvarez Astros jersey is navy, with orange, yellow, and red side paneling. “ASTROS” is sewn across the chest of this button-down jersey in orange and white tackle twill, while “ALVAREZ” and his number “44” are sewn on the back of the jersey in the same fashion.
