The 1972 Film, The Cowboys, is based on the novel by William Dale Jennings and featured an all-star lineup of cast members including John Wayne. The film is also notable for being one of the few in which John Wayne’s character is killed and the only one where he is killed by the main antagonist.  In addition, several critics debated the film's implication that boys become men or confirm their manhood through acts of violence and vengeance.  One of the young men in the film, Cimarron is played by a young A Martinez.  Martinez after this film would wind up having a successful acting career with regular roles on Daytime Soap Operas such as General Hospital, Days of Our Lives, One Life to Live and Santa Barbara.

The offered brown suede pants feature a button up design on both sides of the legs.  The dark tan pants are tagged with a Western Costume Label and the name A. Martinez in the interior waste line.  Additionally, the pants come marked 34x31.  The front of the pants and reverse both show extensive wear and include several repairs.  The pants were undoubtedly made for A Martinez and the additional writing in the interior reads “Mexican”.  After reviewing the film and pants for a match, the pants do resemble those worn in the infamous John Wayne death scene, however we have not conclusively matched them to this due to the quality of the images available.   Additionally, Martinez is one of a few cast members that appears in both the 1972 Movie and the Television series and it is possible these pants could have also been used in the television series as well as the movie.  While they aren’t accompanied by any additional paperwork, the pants are undeniably authentic and properly tagged and marked to have been used in the film and TV series.
