Offered is an autograph from American aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart. Earhart has signed in black ink across a 3 ¼ x 5 inch white card, with four black paper corner mounts on a 7 x 11 inch white card. Underneath the card is the type script, “Name:-Amelia W. Earhart Achievement:-First woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean from the United States.to the Shores of Europe.” On the morning of May 20, 1932, 34-year-old Earhart set off from Harbour Grace, Newfoundland intent on landing in Paris to emulate Charles Lindbergh’s 1927 flight, but landed in Derry, Northern Ireland instead 14 hours, 56 minutes later. She received the U.S. Distinguished Flying Cross for her accomplishment. She set many other aviation records and many best-selling books about her experiences. During an attempt to fly around the world, Earhart disappeared over the central Pacific on July 2, 1937. This item is accompanied by a LOA from JSA.
