United States Presidents have a long history of being athletically inclined. From the barrel chested Teddy Roosevelt to former University of Michigan football stalwart Gerald Ford, American presidents often had a close relationship with athletics. The 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, is no exception. The left-handed Obama was a star member of Punahou High School’s varsity basketball team during his youth. His association with the hardwood carried over to his presidency, when he signed this personalized Obama #44 USA basketball jersey. Obama signed the back of this jersey, inscribing “To David—Wishing you all the best!” and adding the date, “5-21-09” in black marker. On the bottom left front corner, a special “January 20th, 2009 Inaugural Edition” patch is sewn on. This item comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA and University Archives.
