Although Barry Bonds supplanted Hank Aaron as Major League Baseball’s All-Time Home Run King in his final season of 2007, the apex of his remarkable career would have to be the unbelievable year he had in 2001. It was arguably the most productive season by any hitter in the game’s history. Bonds 2001 season stands out among his seven MVP award winning years. This included bold face type denoting his league leading numbers jumping of his Baseball Reference page: a major league record 73 home runs, 177 bases on balls, a .515 on-base-percentage, a major league record .863 slugging percentage and 1.379 OPS (on-base-plus-slugging percentage). Bonds amazing season got off to an auspicious start when he became just the 17th hitter to reach the 500 career home run mark with his sixth big blast of the season off Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Terry Adams with one man on in the bottom eight to give the Giants a 3-2 victory at Pacific Bell Park in San Francisco on April 17, 2001. This 10K gold, size 12.5, 47-gram ring was created by the Josten’s company to commemorate Bonds’ historic achievement. The raised number “500” runs across the face of the ring on top of a cluster of large and small genuine diamonds. “April 17th, 2001 VS. L.A. Dodgers” is in raised relief around the ring’s perimeter with a raised gold baseball at the base. The right shank contains a descriptive passage reading: “BARRY BONDS 17th PLAYER IN HISTORY TO HIT 500 HOME RUNS” with a sculpted relief of the Giants Pacific Bell (now AT & T) Park on the left shank. “Josten’s 10K” is engraved on the ring’s interior band and the ring is contained in its original blue/gray velvet display case. This custom made ring commemorates one of the milestone achievements of one of the game’s greatest sluggers. This was one of four rings created for Bonds, one for Barry and his father Bobby Bonds, and 2 for his marketing agents. Ring comes with LOA from one of his former representatives who is auctioning off his personal ring ( one of the four issued).
