Of the 19,400 odd baseball players to appear in an MLB game, only 23 pitchers have ever thrown a perfect game. The magic of the perfect game is simple: 27 batters come to the plate, 27 batters head back to the dugout. To throw a perfect game is to leave an unassailable legacy in baseball; whether a pitcher has the career of Sandy Koufax or Philip Humber, a perfect game is one of the rarest occurrences in baseball.
This Official American League Bobby Brown baseball has been signed by the 19 pitchers of the past 90 years who have thrown a perfect game – as well as the unlucky Harvey Haddix, who lost his perfect game in bottom of the 13th inning. The Hall of Fame Jim “Catfish” Hunter has signed the sweet spot. The east panel has been signed by Roy Halladay, Len Barker, Dennis Martinez, and Tom Browning. The Hall of Famers Sandy Koufax and Randy Johnson have signed the west panel, with the remaining two signatures belonging to Dallas Braden and Harvey Haddix. Felix Hernandez, David Wells, Don Larsen, Matt Cain, and David Cone have signed the north panel, with Phillip Humber signing over Brown’s stamped signature. Mark Buehrle, Kenny Rogers, Mike Witt, and the Hall of Famer Jim Bunning have signed the south panel. With the exception of Hunter, each pitcher has inscribed the date of their perfect game below their signatures. The signatures have been written in blue pen. This baseball comes with a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A76103).
