The 1959 season proved to be Brooks Robinson’s break-out year. After four years of sharing third base duties with a revolving door of infielders, Robinson opened up the ledger on his Hall of Fame career by hitting .284, fielding his position like a veteran and earned a spot in the O’s lineup he didn’t relinquish for over 19 seasons. This Wilson home white jersey shows moderate game use. The zippered front has “Orioles” in bright orange and black felt and “34” sewn below. Like most major league jerseys, this one was sent down to one of Baltimore’s minor league teams after the ‘59 season and Robinson’s “5” has been removed and replaced. The faint stitching from the “5” can be seen on both the front and the back of the jersey. The felt shows some wear along the zipper edge, and a few small holes pepper the flannel below the numbers. Wilson size “42” label is stitched in the lower left front tail and a white strip tag reading “5 1959” is stitched into the collar. The back of the jersey features the number “34” in Orioles orange and black felt and there is a small hole on the collar between the edge and the black piping. The left sleeve shows the orange trim from the Orioles bird mascot patch, which has been removed when the jersey was sent down for "seasoning." A splendid early jersey from one of Baltimore’s favorite Birds, this jersey comes with a full LOA from game worn jersey expert Dave Miedema.
