This offered baseball was used during the last game of Cal Ripken, Jr’s historic consecutive game streak. Little did anyone know that this would be the last of Cal Ripken Jr.’s 3,262 consecutive game streak as right before the September 20th, 1998 game Ripken asked out of the lineup to the surprise of everyone. What would become the legendary streak could have ended so many times, especially in the early years, because reaching Lou Gehrig’s mark of 2,130 consecutive games played seemed so improbable. Cal Ripken’s 2,632 consecutive games is a feat that will never be broken, a record as unbreakable as Johnny Vander Meer’s back-to-back no hitters and Cy Young’s 511 career wins. This Official American League Gene A. Budig baseball shows great game use with toning throughout and turf marks. At some point the ball was taken out of the game and put aside for posterity, an actual piece of game number 2,632. A great piece that displays beautifully from the last night of one of sport’s most impressive records. This ball comes directly from the personal collection of Cal Ripken, Jr. and a signed LOA from Cal will accompany this milestone baseball.
