The night of September 20, 1998 was 55 degrees with a slight wind coming off the harbor in Baltimore. Since Cal Ripken, Jr. did not have the workout of a ballgame to keep him warm for the first time in over sixteen years, the Orioles legend donned this jacket as he watched his teammates play from the dugout. Worn on the night the streak ended, Cal’s classic Starter dugout jacket has a black body with orange sleeves. A script “Orioles” arches across the chest in black, orange and white and the waist, cuffs and collar are in ribbing of the same Baltimore colors. The Diamond Collection label inside the collar features Cal’s number “8” in black marker with a size XXL hang tag affixed below. A team identification tag has been pinned to the label. The Iron Man has boldly signed the front of his jacket just below the Orioles script in contrasting silver marker. The piece shows good game use, with some scuffing to the surface on one larger stray mark found on the back of the right orange sleeve. This jacket comes with a LOA from Cal Ripken, Jr. for the game use and signature and a certificate from Beckett Authentication stating they witnessed Cal Ripken, Jr. signing this item.
