While most collectors want to see evidence of game use on game used items, this piece is unique in that the lack of use is what makes it extraordinary. These are the cleats worn by Cal Ripken, Jr. the night of September 20, 1998 – the day The Iron Man ended his consecutive game streak. The Nike cleats, as stated, show no game use. The spikes are fairly clean and bright and the black body of the shoes exhibit only light scuffing. Cal’s number “8” is on each tongue in Orioles orange and the heals have the Nike logo and Cal’s initials, “C.R.” The Baltimore icon has signed the outside heel of the right cleat in silver marker. These cleats come with a LOA from Cal Ripken, Jr. for the game use and signature and a certificate from Beckett Authentication stating they witnessed Cal Ripken, Jr. signing this item.
