Jackie Robinson 70th anniversary auction to benefit JRF ending April 29
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2017
This iconic photograph shows Muhammad Ali standing over his fallen opponent Sonny Liston. Ali and Liston fought twice, in 1964 and 1965, with Ali winning both fights. They were the bouts that solidified Ali as the greatest heavyweight in the world, and in turn consigned Liston to relative obscurity.
This black and white 9 ½ by 7 inch photo was taken by world renowned sports photographer Donald Robinson after Ali knocked out Liston in their 1965 fight. Ali signed the photograph as “Cassius Clay”, his birth name, and added the inscription “1965” in black marker. This photo is encased in a 17 x 14 frame and comes with a LOA from JSA (Y79101).
