Offered in this lot is the popular “Darktown Battery” mechanical bank produced by J & E Stevens in the late 19th century. First produced in 1888, this mechanical bank was a huge hit with baseball fans thanks to its bright colors and unique coin action. The pitcher throws a coin to the catcher, who catches and deposits the coin as the blue and yellow clad hitter swings and misses. This bank measures approximately 10 x 3 inches, with a height of 7 inches. This example is incredibly well preserved, with bright colors and all pieces intact. It is a historic display piece from the early days of baseball.
