Called the “Catonsville Flash” after his hometown in Maryland, speed merchant Fred “Fritz” Maisel began his career in 1910 with Jack Dunn’s Baltimore Orioles. Two years later he was in the majors, playing third for the pre-Yankees Highlanders team. Maisel made a mark for himself when he swiped an outstanding 74 bases in 1914, leading the American League and setting a Yankees record that stood for years. He returned to Dunn’s Orioles in 1919 where he was the captain of the team that won a record seven straight International League pennants.

This tremendously rare bat straddles Maisel’s time in the majors and with the Orioles. Dated to the 1916 to 1920 seasons, the Kren’s Special professional model bat shows heavy game use with a handle crack. Many ball marks are visible on all sides of the barrel and the handle and barrel has been scored. The barrel originally has factory side-writing present, but this is no longer legible. A very rare gamer from the Yankees’ stolen base king of the deadball era. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B14820) for the game use.
