Offered is a baseball scorecard, circa 1921-1925, featuring the images of baseball stars Christy Mathewson and Hughey Jennings.  The 3½ x 6-inch brown cardstock scorecard is printed in dark brown ink, with the words “Score a “Hit” for Yourself” feature on the center front.  A photo of Matthewson is on the left with caption, while a photo of Jennings is on the right with caption.  In the middle is the printed legend: “Christy Mathewson says: “I have a high opinion of the I.C.S. because of its efficient courses of instruction.” Hughey Jennings says: “Put me down as a strong supporter of the I.C.S. I am acquainted with the officials and can safely recommend their courses of instruction.””  The legend “Score Card Inside” is in the bottom center, and there is a stylized border around all the front cover text.  The back side of the card has the legend “SCORE A HIT FOR YOURSELF” with text below, in brown ink, about “The International Correspondence Schools.”  The centerspread is a two -team grid for keeping score of a baseball game.

Matthewson was a right-handed pitcher who played 17 seasons with the New York Giants.  He was among the most dominant pitchers in baseball history and ranks in the all-time top ten in several key pitching categories, including wins, shutouts, and ERA. In 1936 Mathewson was elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame as one of its first five members. Jennings (April 2, 1869 – February 1, 1928) played professional baseball, coached and managed from 1891-1925. Jennings was a leader, both as a batter and as a shortstop, with the Baltimore Orioles teams that won National League championships in 1894, 1895, and 1896. During those three seasons, Jennings had 355 runs batted in and hit .335, .386, and .401. Jennings was a fiery, hard-nosed player who was not afraid to be hit by a pitch to get on base. In 1896, he was hit by pitches 51 times – a major league record that has never been broken.  He also played on the Brooklyn Superbas teams that won National League pennants in 1899 and 1900. From 1907 to 1920, Jennings was the manager of the Detroit. He was posthumously inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1945.
