During his 13-year-big league career, Hank Greenberg not only posted up stats that put him in the same rarified category as Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Joe DiMaggio, but he became the first baseball superstar of the Jewish faith. The “Hebrew Hammer” retired after the 1947 season and quickly switched to a management position, first as the farm director of the Cleveland Indians and by 1950 he was general manager and part owner of the team.

This professional model bat was made for Greenberg at some point during 1950-1953 period when he was at the top echelons of the Indians organization, perhaps so he could show the young kids in spring training how he used to hit ‘em outta the park when he was in his prime. The Hillerich & Bradsby G79 model bat is un-cracked and displays outstanding use. The left and back barrel exhibits many ball marks and there is some checking from repeated ball contact on the back barrel. There are various scuffs and abrasions from contact with the ground and storage with other equipment and the model number “G79” has been stamped into the knob. A very attractive post-career bat attributed to baseball’s first great Jewish ballplayer. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B14124) for the game use.
