Houston Rockets guard Calvin Murphy is second on the all-time points scored for the Houston Rockets with 17,949, only trailing fellow Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon. Murphy, a 5’9” guard out of Niagara University via Norwalk, Connecticut, is the shortest member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. He played for the Rockets, in both San Diego and Houston, for his entire NBA career (1970 – 1983). Even now, 35 years after his retirement, Murphy remains the Rockets all-time leader in assists.

This offered white mesh size 38 Sand-Knit Houston Rockets home jersey was worn by Calvin Murphy during the 1977-78 season, where Murphy averaged a career-high 25.6 points per game and 3.4 assists per game. The front of the jersey has “ROCKEtS” and “23” sewn on in red tackle twill. The back of the jersey has “MURPHY” and “23” sewn on in red tackle twill. The open sleeves and collar are lined with a ribbed material in yellow and red. The two Sand-Knit tags “Designed & Tailored Exclusively for the HOUSTON ROCKETS” and “SIZE 38” are sewn on the bottom front left tail. The jersey can be dated to the 1977-78 season based on the design of the Sand-Knit tags and the numeric font consistent with 1977-78 team photos. The next season, 1978-79, had a different number font. The jersey displays light use with minor toning of the white mesh and comes with a LOA from Cristy Nordstrom, the widow of former long-time Houston Rockets equipment manager David Nordstrom, who attests that this jersey was acquired during his tenure with the team and that it has been in her possession since his passing. There is also a LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema.
