Jackie Robinson 70th anniversary auction to benefit JRF ending April 29
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2017
Offered here are eight lobby cards for “The Jackie Robinson Story,” a 1950 film that told the story of Jackie Robinson’s early life and rise to baseball stardom. Robinson played himself in this movie, with Ruby Dee playing his wife Rachel and Minor Watson portraying Brooklyn Dodgers General Manager Branch Rickey. Despite its release during the Jim Crow era, the film was well-received by critics and viewers alike.
These 11 x 14 lobby cards show scenes from different points in the movie. They are part of a set numbered 50 out of 330. All the cards are vibrant, full-color portrayals of arguably the most important baseball player in the history of the sport. These cards are an incredible piece of baseball history. This set would be a welcome addition to the collection of any dedicated baseball fan.
