Presented is a David Berkowitz signature and inscription on his 2006 book, “Son of Hope The Prison Journals of David Berkowitz Volume 1.” Berkowitz has inscribed “June 2010 May Jesus Christ fill your heart and mind with His strength, peace and goodness. Be well and stay safe. Your friend, David Berkowitz “Son of Hope” John 3:15 2 Corinthians 5:17” in blue pen on the title page of the Morning Star Communications hardcover. On the third interior page, Berkowitz has also inscribed “Thanks for caring about those who are in prison. David Berkowitz “Son of Hope” 6/2010”. Berkowitz, also known as the Son of Sam and the .44 Caliber Killer, is a serial killer who pleaded guilty to eight separate shooting attacks that began in New York City during the summer of 1976. Using a .44 caliber Bulldog revolver, he killed six people and wounded seven others by July 1977. As the number of victims increased, Berkowitz eluded the biggest police manhunt in the history of New York City while leaving letters that mocked the police and promised further crimes, which were highly publicized by the press. The killing spree terrorized New Yorkers and achieved worldwide notoriety. Berkowitz has been incarcerated since his arrest and is serving six consecutive life sentences.
