It took 42 years for a New York Yankees pitcher to equal Don Larsen and throw a perfect game, but David Wells accomplished this feat on May 17th, 1998 when he completely shut down the Minnesota Twins at Yankee Stadium, guiding the Bronx Bombers to a 4-0 victory while striking out 11 Twins. Bernie Williams provided a hot bat for the Yankees, finishing 3-3, hitting a solo home run, two doubles, and scoring three runs. Perfect games are one of the rarest feats in all of baseball as there has only been 23 official perfect games.

Wells’ gem was the 15th perfect game in Major League history and offered here are a baseball that was used in the game and ticket to the game, both signed by star of the show himself – David Wells. The Official American League Gene A. Budig baseball displays outstanding use, showing dirt and rub-down stains. The blue stampings on the baseball are still crisp and Wells signed his name in blue pen across the sweet spot while adding the inscription “5/17/98”, the date of his perfect game. Also included in this lot is a single ticket from Wells’ perfect game. This 5 ½ x 2 inch light blue ticket stub has the Yankees logo in the center box with “New York Yankees” in repeated red type. Lightly typed in black is “YANKEE STADIUM NEW YORK YANKEES VS MINNESOTA SUN MAY 17, 1998 1:35 PM”. The ticket has two perforated sections and Wells signed his name in bold black marker over the Yankees’ logo. This is a tremendous opportunity to own a piece of baseball history. Wells’ signatures come with individual COAs from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (D84689 & D84690).
