In 2015, Dan Duffy was our special guest at the National Sports Collectors Convention in Chicago, where he completed an epic Wrigley Field scene that sold in our Live Auction for $3,000. Now this innovative rising star of the art world has outdone himself with the ultimate tribute to NYC—composed solely of the Big Apple's iconic place names in an array of evocative colors and font styles. Spanning over 3 feet by 2-1/2 feet, this monumental masterpiece was born from Duffy's recent crowdfunding campaign to kick off his "City Skyline" series. Best of all, his entire creative process was actually filmed for a promo video that provides a rare, intimate look behind the scenes.
Broadway, Chelsea, Park Slope, Flatbush, Koreatown, Tribeca, East Village, SoHo, Wall Street, Madison Ave, Brooklyn Bridge—these and myriad other landmarks form Duffy's textual cityscape, with the Statue of Liberty and Empire State Building looming proudest in the picturesque sunset sky. "There is no place like it," Walt Whitman once said of New York City, "no place with an atom of its glory, pride, and exultancy. It lays its hand upon a man's bowels; he grows drunk with ecstasy; he grows young and full of glory, he feels that he can never die." Signed by the artist and handsomely framed to measure 45 1/2 x 38 inches.
