From the minute he turned pro in 1971, Julius Erving took the game from the court to above the rim. Dr. J’s leaping and slam-dunking style of play revolutionized the game and helped make the fledging ABA a more exiting alternative to the old-school NBA. That changed in 1976 when Erving went to the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers and brought his new style of offence with him. Dr. J’s tenure in Philly brought forth an NBA MVP Award (1981), a World Championship (1983), and a pair of NBA All-Star Game MVP Awards (1977 & 1983).

Erving retired after the 1987 season and is immortalized today as a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as well as being named to both the NBA’s 35th and 50th Anniversary All-Time Teams. This classic uniform set was worn by Dr. J during the early 1980’s when he led the Sixers to a World Championship. The front of the home white mesh jersey has “SIXERS” arched across the chest above Dr. J’s number “6” in blue and red tackle twill. The collar and arm openings are trimmed in red, white and blue ribbing and a Wilson size 40 label is sewn in the lower left front tail. A white hang tag is affixed upon which “3” ex. Length” has been handwritten in black ink. The back has “ERVING” in individual blue tackle twill letters above a blue and red tackle twill “6”. Dr. J has signed the back of the jersey below his famed number “6” in bold black marker.

The jersey is accompanied by a matching set of home white shorts. The right thigh has a red, white and blue 76ers logo patch and the waist, sides and leg openings are trimmed in red, white and blue ribbing. The waistband has PEARSON SPORTING GOODS and Wilson size 34 labels. Two strip tags with “78” and “6” chain stitched in blue are located below the manufacturer’s labels. The “6” has been x’ed out in black marker. The jersey shows light wear with loose threads throughout and puckering to the tackle twill from age and laundering. The shorts show good wear with loose threads throughout and slight puckering to the 76ers logo patch. The colors remain bright and the white mesh has just very light toning. A tremendous uniform set from one of the greatest players to ever set foot on a basketball court. This uniform set comes with a LOA from MEARS (316396) for the game use and has been graded a perfect A10, plus a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A07882) for the signature.
